Atlas, a prominent figure in Greek mythology. He is a cosmic cartographer, known for his immense strength and eternal task of holding the heavens apart from the earth. As one of the Titans, Atlas plays a significant role in various myths, and he is closely associated with the stars, astronomy, and navigation.

Atlas’ role as the bearer of the sky and the metaphorical bearer of knowledge is symbolized by the celestial sphere. This conceptual tool was used in spherical astronomy to describe the configuration of the cosmos and to measure the positions of celestial objects. (The modern depiction of Atlas holding the world on his shoulders is a popular but incorrect representation, as he originally held the celestial sphere. With the heavens perched on his back, Atlas embodies pure masculine energy.)

While his strength allowed him to lead a faction of gods to war, it also led to his punishment. The modern phrase “bearing the weight of the world on your shoulders” is synonymous with taking on heavy burdens, often alone.

What is Rue?

Rue, or Herb of Grace (Ruta graveolens) is an herb with a rich history of medicinal and mystical uses. It’s native to the Mediterranean Known for its potent aroma, rue has been valued across various cultures for its protective and healing properties. The ancient Romans used rue to ward off evil spirits, while in Medieval Europe, it was believed to protect against witches and their hexes. In North African and Middle Eastern cultures, rue is used in amulets or burned as incense for protection.

Medicinally, rue has been employed to alleviate pain, improve vision, and repel pests. It has been used to treat breathing problems, digestive issues, and nervous system disorders. Artists like Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci believed that consuming rue could enhance creativity and eyesight.

In modern herbal traditions, rue continues to be used for various ailments, including as an insect repellent and for treating arthritis, dislocations, sprains, and skin conditions.

Note that rue is to be consumed very delicately, in small doses (say, as an herb in seasoning). Consuming large amounts can cause gastric pain, vomiting, liver damage, and death, and it should not be consumed by pregnant women. (Source.)
